New Digital Access to ICPSR Data Sets at the UCSF Library
The UCSF Library now provides electronic access to raw data sets, in addition to its current collection of published data summaries and research results. UCSF has joined the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), a group of over 400 colleges and universities worldwide that maintains a digital archive of social science data sets at the University of Michigan. Its membership will entitle UCSF faculty, staff, students and post docs to borrow data and documentation from ICPSR's collection and to take advantage of ICPSR's extensive summer training program in quantitative methods.
Researchers in the UCSF Center for Health and Community and other social science departments on campus have been eager to join ICPSR and have access to a collection that spans numerous subject areas: census, community and urban studies, conflict and war, economic behavior, education, environment and geography, political issues, health care, international systems, legal issues, and social indicators and institutions.
Researchers may browse ICPSR's collection through its web site. Some data and documents are available for free download directly from ICPSR's site. Many studies will need to be ordered for $100 per study through the Data Management Services (DMS) office at the UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management. Researchers may submit requests for fee-based studies via its web site.
