Alison Field, ScD, associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, will lecture at UCSF today (Thursday, Feb. 28) and tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 29).
Field is also a staff scientist in the Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at Children’s Hospital Boston and an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where she is a part of the Channing Laboratory. Field’s research focuses on the causes, correlates, consequences and course of overweight and disordered eating among children, adolescents and adult women.
Field will give the following lectures at UCSF:
- • Thursday, Feb. 28: Pediatric Grand Rounds: “Advances in Understanding the Development of Eating Disorders and Obesity,” 8 to 9 a.m., School of Nursing, room N 217;
- • Friday, Feb. 29: Fellows Research Seminar: “Methodological Issues to Consider When Studying the Development and Prevention of Obesity and Eating Disorders,” 9 to 11 a.m., Laurel Heights, Suite 245;
- • Friday, Feb. 29: COAST Grand Rounds: “Association of Dietary Intake, Weight Control Strategies and Binge Eating to Weight Gain Among Children and Adolescents,” noon to 1:30 p.m., Laurel Heights, room 474.
The purpose of Pediatric Grand Rounds is to expose residents and faculty to disease-oriented research and to introduce new technological developments in the subspecialties of pediatrics. Attendees will be exposed to the latest research and scientific progress, and will learn how this work impacts clinical practice.
Field is a co-founder of the Growing Up Today Study, which was established in 1996 to assess the predictors of dietary intake, activity and weight gain during a four-year period. Her research within the study is primarily related to the epidemiology of weight gain, weight concerns, weight control practices and bulimic behaviors.
