  Graduate Degree Programs

Graduate degrees are offered by the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Department of Anthropology, History, and Social Medicine.

Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences (SBS) offers a course of study leading to a Ph.D. in sociology, with major emphasis on the sociology of health, medicine, and health care systems. Department of Anthropology, History, and Social Medicine administers degree programs in both Medical Anthropology and the History of Health Sciences. Both degree programs are joint doctoral programs with the University of California, Berkeley: Medical Anthropology (with the Department of Anthropology's Program in Critical Studies in Medicine, Science, and the Body; and History of Health Sciences (with the Department of History's History of Science Doctoral Program).

UCSF Global Health Sciences, the first in the country to offer a Masters of Science (MS) degree in Global Health Sciences, is now accepting applications for the class of 2011, matriculating in September 2010.

This unique one-year program provides students in the health sciences and allied fields with the knowledge and skills necessary for leadership roles in global health through a multi-disciplinary curriculum and an applied global health fieldwork experience.  More than 70 faculty from UCSF, as well as from UC Berkeley, teach and mentor students, preparing them for careers in international health policy, health care services, education, research or development.
